Today there are more than five billion mobile phones in operation in the world. It is the most massive object that man carries with him daily.
Movies made on mobile phones are becoming increasingly popular thanks to a large number of festivals around the world that popularize the originality and aesthetics of “mobile film”.
The huge number of mobile phone users in the world, including the region and Macedonia, have just as many potential “filmmakers”. It was enough motivation and challenge in 2010 to start with the Mobile Festival, the first International Mobile Film Festival in Macedonia.
During these five years of existence, the festival has screened hundreds of films made with a mobile phone in both domestic and international selection. At the same time, the Mobile Festival has become part of a huge international network of festivals promoting mobile-film-making. Thus, the films from the Mobile Festival get their promotion at the biggest world festivals of this kind. One of the winners of the festival in 2011, Dukagjin Borova’s film “Everything is Money” was already at the prestigious International Mobil Film Festival in San Diego and received the award for the best-animated film.
Mobile Festival Workshops are also part of the Mobile Festival program. The workshops are on a different theme each year and are led by professionals in their field.
The Mobile Festival in cooperation with the elementary and high schools in Skopje is organized by the Junior Mobile Festival, giving young people the chance to show their creativity through new technologies.
Currently, the Mobil Festival is the only festival of its kind in the region that has managed to remain regular. Since 2012, the festival has grown into a regional, and in addition to domestic and international selection, there is already a selection of films from the region.
Making a movie on a mobile phone is different and easy. With your mobile phones, you can always record events, unexpected situations, and quickly produce your own movies. Desire is needed.
